Right next to the overcrowded and touristy Zeedijk and Red Light District lies a much quieter neighborhood – Lastage – along with three small islands. In the sixteenth century, Lastage was developed just outside the city walls. This is a historic part of Amsterdam, with narrow canals, old warehouses, and small bridges. Across the wider defensive canals lie three islands, which are part of the old Jewish quarter. In this city walk, we explore this area. We end the walk at a terrace on Nieuwmarkt.
